The
Portland String Quartet has been performing, teaching and
recording with its founding members since l969.
In 1986 they were proclaimed "Maine treasures" and
awarded Honorary Doctor of Music degrees at Colby College
where they served as Artists in Residence for 20 years. The
quartet also has served as Artists in Residence at LaSalle University
in Philadelphia, PA.
Coming
together from musical training at Curtis, Eastman, Indiana,
Juilliard, Oberlin, and San Francisco State College, the quartet
members have played an important role in the artistic renaissance
of the State of Maine, championing Maine and American composers
both nationally and internationally.
